Running in the Hills

There was plenty of action in the hills too. Fraser, Michael, Sam and Liam travelled to North Wales for the Ras Yr Aran Fell Race, the first race in this year’s FRA British Championships. Run over 10 miles with 3,100 feet of ascent it was a tough race with the addition of rain and strong headwinds. Not surprisingly the standard was very high but all performed excellently against strong competition.

Tom M completed the Haworth Hobble, an epic 32 miles with 4,400 feet of climbing over the moors in the Yorkshire Pennines, while Zulma ran the Grindleford Gallop, a tough race of 21 miles and 3,000 feet of ascent on paths, tracks and open moorland with stunning views of the Peak District.

Gary, Ian, Lorraine, Kieran, Rebecca, Hannah G, Gillian, Carol and Brian completed the Two Crosses Challenge, a 25 or 17 mile event for walkers and runners via the Western Pennine reservoirs and moors, organised by the East Lancs LDWA, with Gary finishing the 17 mile course in an excellent 5th place.

Out in New Zealand Gavin ran his first ever mountain trail race in the Motatapu near Queenstown, with beautiful mountain scenery, tough climbs and lots of river crossings.

And for those not racing on Sunday morning we had our usual great selection of group runs led by our lovely volunteer run leaders.

Well done everyone!
